What do I think of President Trump’s pick of Lt. General H.R. McMaster as his new national security advisor?
H.R. McMaster is a phenomenal pick to succeed Michael Flynn as President Trump’s national security advisor. I first came across his 1997 book on the Vietnam War, Dereliction of Duty, in college in 2002. It was one of the most important reads of my life due to the lesson that DC should not micromanage wars.
General McMaster is a stellar choice for national security advisor. He brings stability and credibility to the job. President Trump will be served well by a career military man who is more than capable of balancing the demands of the national security bureaucracy and the White House.
Democrats are quietly praising the pick, as McMaster is not a partisan hack, but rather a true patriot. At the same time, Republicans, including those that are critical of Donald Trump, are also praising the selection of General McMaster.
It is safe to say that this is easily President Trump’s most popular move as president.
